Ok, so things are not as bad as we thought they would turn out to be.
We finally reached an agreement with the insurance company, and while it wasn't what they originally said they would do, it is a fair settlement. The only problem is we have to surrender the title and they will re-issue it as a "salvage title". My friend in the car business has assured me that it's no big deal, it basically just means we can't get full coverage on our insurance (which we didn't have anyway since this thing has over 200,000 miles on it!)
So, hopefully, we can use it to get something bigger and better. My friend that I mentioned earlier is going to check the dealer auctions for us and hopefully find us something decent.
I still stand by my previous statements that insurance companies need to be regulated, controlled, or exterminated, but even a bad business can sometimes accidentally get things right.
