Mid July Update

I can't believe that we are already here. School starts in 35 days! 35 DAYS! Summer used to be three months long, now it's 10 weeks. Some schools are year round!

But I digress.

It's been a fun summer so far. We've started a tradition of Sunday lunch in the park. I've posted pictures and video of rolling in the grass and playing in the fountains, that's what that's from. We felt we needed one day that was about getting outside and doing stuff together instead of sitting at home complaining about how hot it is while each of us was attached to our own screen playing video games or on the web. It's been nice. The kids are getting some sun and everyone seems to like it.

We're up to three working vehicles now, which is awesome. We'd been borrowing Miss T's car for so long that she was finally to the point of believing it was no longer hers. We got the Big White Van fixed (we call her Bob), so we can go places, like church and the park on Sundays, as a family. We also got our little Subaru fixed, finally! So now Mom's got her car to do her running in, plus teach the teenagers how to drive, and Miss T has her car so she can go and do the things she wants to do, and we have Bob to go and do things as a family, and everyone is happy! (Except me, I'm not allowed to drive any more.)

Where have we been this summer? Well, one of us got to go to New York City, another got to go to L.A., 4 of us got to go to church camp in Colorado, and 3 of us plus a guest just got back from a road trip to NMSU.

I'll be sharing a few pictures and that whole story in the next post. For now I'll just say that Miss C is all set for classes. She's taking 17 hours, mostly honors classes. We toured the whole campus, ate lunch in the cafeteria (the food was AWESOME), and we got to see her dorm. Except for her books (which we hope to find used and very cheap online) and about $30 everything is paid for by her scholarship.

So what's the plan for the next 35 days? Well, we haven't been to the pool yet, which everyone has been begging us for every day since summer started, so we plan to do that a lot (thanks, Grandma for the swim passes!) We have two unlicensed drivers that need to be driving before school starts, so we need to devote about 100 hours to that. We have two other college students besides Miss C who need to get set on their stuff. And then there's the whole back to school shopping nightmare...

Stress? Oh, yes. An unbelievable amount. But it's the good kind, the kind that means we're doing something, we're getting somewhere, somewhere important. It's felt like things have been on hold for a while, but now things are happening to get us where we need to go, and that's a great feeling.
