So this past week was the school musical. This year only Cheni was in it, but that didn't make much difference because we still had to run her back and forth. They did "Fiddler on the Roof" and she played "Grandma Zeidel" (or however you spell it), if you haven't seen the play or the movie, she basically played the ghost of an old lady in a dream sequence. She did a great job!
But then there was Thursday night....
It was the only night Anna and I got to go without having to drag along half a dozen short people. We're sitting there at intermission when the drama teacher comes out and gets us "Umm, Cheni fell and is passed out back stage. We've called an ambulance, but you might want to come back."
Jumping ahead - she was just fine. Turns out that with the insane schedule they had been keeping with rehearsals and having already done three performances before that one Thursday night, she was exhausted (as they all were), but she had also forgotten to EAT that day! She had basically dehydrated herself and then put her body into hypoglycemic shock. Once her adrenaline rush from the first act had worn off, she just collapsed. Anna and I didn't get to see the second act (Cheni wasn't in it anyway), instead we took her to get a cheeseburger and a giant soda. She was feeling better by the time we got home.
Whew.
She managed to get through the last two performances Friday and Saturday night, and then slept most of the day Sunday - as did mom and dad. I wish I had some pictures or a bit of video to show you, but they were real sticklers and didn't allow cameras into the theater at all (though other people seemed to have smuggled them in - wish we's had a camera phone!) The teacher said he took pictures of her in her costume, so hopefully we'll get our hands on one.
Here's a shot from someone else's stage production to give you an idea of what the scene looked like. Cheni was hilarious as the cranky old woman:
